Armies and battle readiness

Rosters, points, proxies — and why an army shows you two different progress numbers.

What an army is here

An army groups miniatures for one game and one faction, with a points target you are working toward. It is a planning view over your Pile: adding a unit to an army does not copy it, and removing it does not delete anything.

Roster entries and proxies

A roster entry is a unit in your list. Link it to something in your Pile and it counts as owned; leave it unlinked and it is a proxy — a placeholder for something you plan to buy, counted in the list but not in what you own.

Linking a Pile unit to an entry copies its points and model count across once, as a starting value. It is not a live link: editing the unit later will not quietly move your roster totals, and any points you typed yourself always win.

Why there are two progress numbers

Collection progress asks how much of what you own is painted, measured against your points target. It is the ring on the army card.

Battle readiness asks how much of this list you could actually put on a table: what the roster costs, how much of it you own, and how much of that is painted. An army can be 90% painted and still far from table-ready if a third of the list is proxies.

By default both count a unit as done once it reaches Painted or Complete, so the two numbers never disagree about a single model — only about what they are measuring.

You can raise that bar for one army on its Readiness tab. Choose display standard and only Complete counts — for both numbers at once, and for that army alone, so a tournament army and a parade army can each be judged on their own terms.

Paint next and the shopping list

From a roster the app can tell you two useful things: which owned units to paint next, and which unowned units are missing from the list. The second is your shopping list for that army.

"Paint These Next" shows five entries, and you choose the rule that picks them: biggest impact by points, quick wins from the smallest units, whatever is closest to done, or the order you arranged the roster in. The rule runs before the cut to five, so it changes which units appear and not merely how they are sorted. Your choice is remembered and applies to every army; biggest impact is the default.
