What Empire Knights looks like

Colour schemes

The Empire of Man — Empire Knights

Intermediate · 6 areas

Full plate, gold order devices and a barded warhorse. The armour is the same steel recipe as a State Trooper wears, taken two layers further — which is the point: the knights and the regiment should look like one army.

Plate harness

  1. Basecoat the plate Basecoat
  2. Shade heavily All-over shade — Nuln Oil Gloss rather than the matt version — it pools harder into the plate joins and leaves the flats brighter.
  3. Layer the flats Layer
  4. Edge the armour Edge highlight

Gold order devices

  1. Basecoat the gold Basecoat — Trim, buckles and the order medallion only. Gold everywhere makes a knight look like a Stormcast.
  2. Shade the gold Recess shade
  3. Bring the gold up Layer

Barding and caparison

  1. Basecoat the cloth Basecoat
  2. Shade the drapery All-over shade
  3. Highlight the folds Layer
  4. Order cross Freehand — Corax White blocked in, White Scar to tidy the arms once dry.

Warhorse

  1. Basecoat the coat Basecoat
  2. Shade the muscle All-over shade
  3. Drybrush the flanks Drybrush

Plume and pennant

  1. Basecoat the plume Basecoat
  2. Shade it Recess shade
  3. Highlight the feather tips Drybrush — A light Evil Sunz Scarlet drybrush across the plume separates the feathers without painting each one.

Base

  1. Texture the base Texture — Astrogranite Debris reads as broken cobble, which is where most Empire regiments are photographed.
  2. Drybrush the stone Drybrush
  3. Rim the base Detail
