Kingdom of Bretonnia — Men-At-Arms

Beginner · 6 areas

The block a Bretonnian army is actually built on, and the cheapest place to learn the livery halving that every other unit in the army repeats. Two colours, one wash, and the regiment reads from across the table.

Livery — red half

  1. Basecoat the red side Basecoat — Halve the model down the centre line: one leg, one sleeve and one half of the tabard. Getting the split straight matters more than the colour does.
  2. Shade the folds Recess shade
  3. Highlight the cloth Layer — Evil Sunz Scarlet on the raised folds only — a peasant tabard should not look silk.

Livery — blue half

  1. Basecoat the blue side Basecoat
  2. Shade the folds Recess shade
  3. Highlight the cloth Layer

Mail and helm

  1. Basecoat the metal Basecoat — Mail coif, kettle helm and any plate at the knee — a levy owns very little of it.
  2. Shade the rings All-over shade
  3. Catch the raised links Drybrush — A very light Ironbreaker drybrush finds the mail texture without picking out every ring by hand.

Polearm and leather

  1. Basecoat haft and belts Basecoat
  2. Shade both All-over shade
  3. Highlight the wood Layer — Baneblade Brown along the length of the haft, leaving the shaded grain showing.
  4. Blade edge Edge highlight

Skin

  1. Basecoat the flesh Basecoat
  2. Shade the whole face All-over shade — Reikland Fleshshade does the work here — do not thin it, the recesses want to be dark.
  3. Bring the features back Layer — Cadian Fleshtone on the nose, brow and cheekbones, then Kislev Flesh on those points only.

Base

  1. Texture the base Texture — Battlemire over the whole base — Bretonnia fights across ploughed field and marsh.
  2. Drybrush the dried earth Drybrush
  3. Rim the base Detail
